SENATOR FEINSTEIN’S OFFICE MEETS WITH YOUTH ADVOCATES AND JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER REP

Local Activist Group - Women Will - Forges Ahead with Political Action

SAN DIEGO (April 5, 2017) – Representatives from local activist group Women Will meet with Ryan Williams, Field Representative, at Senator Dianne Feinstein's San Diego District Office, on the first Thursday of each month.  This Thursday, April, 6, Women Will’s Youth Advocacy Committee, will be bringing written testimonies of students attending La Jolla High School on issues that personally affect or concern them and the youth community. Some topics will include climate change, global warming, cutting high school arts programs from the federal budget, the rising hate in America and the toll it’s taken on schools.  The meeting will be held at Senator Feinstein’s office in the Federal building located at 880 Front Street from 2:30-3:05pm. The attending members of the Women Will group will be available to speak to the media after the meeting outside the building.

Representing the Women Will Youth Advocate Committee will be 9^th grader Chair Maya Ordonez Landsberg and 10^th grader Oliva Hatch.  “The Youth Advocacy Committee works to embody the voices of the youth who want to contribute to the cultivation of their future as citizens of the United States of America, and their concerns being expressed at this meeting do just this,” explains Maya Ordonez Landsberg.  She continues, “It has been enlightening for Olivia and I to see how vocal and passionate our peers are, and we believe that it is the job of our committee to see that the voice of the next generation is never over looked - as it comes from a genuine perspective that is vital to the fight for change in this country, especially at this trying time”

Joining the Youth Advocacy Committee will be 3^rd grader Addie Geurtsen-Shoemate of Bird Rock Elementary, 6^th grader Samuel Geurtsen-Shoemate of Muirlands Middle School and UCSD undergraduate Angel Osuna.  Sam will be speaking about the youth climate lawsuit and youth rights to a healthy environment.  Angel plans on discussing religious and minority rights. 

Women Will is thrilled to also have Jewish Community Center representative Lorraine Fisher attend the meeting on Thursday.  She will be bringing a statement issued from the JCC following the latest security threats to the center.

Like hundreds of other small groups nationwide Women Will formed the week after Trump's election. Inspired and energized by the Women’s March, a group of working mothers from La Jolla knew they could do more. Incorporating The Indivisible Guide and with four major goals in mind - utilizing a quick response team to pressure legislators into resisting Trump's agenda, supporting candidates for open senate seats that are pro-choice, supporting the local immigrant and religious minority community members in retaining their rights, and using their members to strategically engage in protests and other civic actions that align with their vision, they are focused on strategies that will be effective. The fight is personal for all of the women and they do the political work with love.

Women Will pledges to promote and protect the rights of women, immigrants and minority communities through political action, partnering with like-minded activists, and community engagement to champion these causes and inspire others to do the same.
