TIPS FOR EFFECTIVELY CONTACTING YOUR STATE AND FEDREAL CONGRESSPERSONS

1.         Contact or meet with YOUR elected representatives; representatives are not interested  in    constituents who do not reside in their district.

2.         The more personal and effortful the contact the better

            a.  in-person meetings at their local office when they are in town, or with their staffers if      they are not.

            b. town halls

            c.  phone calls

            d.  personal emails or letters, not form letters or emails

3.         The more constituents the better

4.         Follow up in-person meetings with local media and press reports if possible

5.         Focus on a single issue (ask) rather than a list of issues and use personal stories or examples of how this issue affects you and your community.

6.         Ask for a concrete action from your representative, such as a vote for or against a bill or      nomination, making a public statement, or calling for a congressional inquiry
